First 100 Years Events

The First 100 Years has blossomed from a video project into a full celebration of women’s role in the profession, with an extensive programme of activities and events planned in the run-up to the centenary of the ‘women in law’ in 2019.

On Thursday 12th March 2015 we marked the one year anniversary of the launch of the First 100 Years Project with an afternoon tea event in the Attlee Room at the House of Lords. Our first In Conversation event on How Can Innovation and Diversity Shape the Legal Profession? Dame Janet Gaymer and Rosemary Martin spoke inspiringly on this topic, recounting their experiences of working in the legal profession and envisioning what the future of law will be like if shaped innovatively.

Our flagship event in 2015 was delighted to have Professor Dame Carol Black as our keynote speaker, and chair Dame Jenni Murray from Radio 4's Woman's Hour. The full-day conference was hosted by Simmons&Simmons at CityPoint, with a series of panel debates.

On 16th June 2016 we held an event at the Supreme Court, which was a great success. Many of FHY’s supporters came to celebrate our achievements and view our tribute video to Frances Murphy. Thanks to all who came and made it such a fantastic evening.
